The law now states that waste packaging can no longer go to landfill. The larger courier companies are working with local authorities and recycling businesses to recycle and also find ways to reduce their carbon footprint from air and road freight.

Whilst this is less of an issue for smaller businesses, reduction should still be an aim, and we can help you get started easily with recycling your waste polythene, cardboard and paper.

Environment Awards For Kent Business.

Impact Recycling is our sister company, dealing with printer toners and cartridges. It is against the law for toners and cartridges to go to landfill and the company was set up to provide a fast and simple way for business, schools and charities to dispose of their printer waste. Following on from our commitment to partnerships with local businesses Impact makes a ten percent donation to four local charities from profits and true to its name has made a significant impact within the local community, this has led to some prestigious awards being given to Impact.

• Environment Awards For Kent Business,2005. Award for the best commercial development of plastics recycling.
• Severnside Annual Recycling Awards, 2006.
• Best Recycling Service Award from The Woodland Trust. A stand of Trees on the Hucking Estate near Maidstone, Kent is dedicated to Impact in recognition of their achievements.
•  Environment Awards For Kent Business 2006 and 2007. Impact received a commended certificate for both years.

Mixed Plastic

As a growing company we are always looking for new products to diversify into. Currently, we are investigating the possibility of recylcing and re-processing mixed plastic waste such as toys and other  plastics.

Toys consist of mixed polymers, whilst the end product must be of a single polymer type only.  The time and costs involved with hand separating the different types of mixed plastic has previously made recycling these materials uneconomical for waste producers and so they continue to go to landfill.

As this is a specialist area we also need to find a buyer for the product, this is an on-going process that we hope will bear fruit in the near future.

The recycling marketplace is an ever changing and dynamic entity, and diversification is the key to keeping pace. Our own efforts, combined with our partnership with REMADE SouthEast is helping us to achieve our goals.

Our sister company, Impact Toner Recycling, aims to help businesses, schools and charities to comply with the law by offering a straightforward and easy recycling service. Collection is free and a further incentive to recycle with Impact is offered by our sponsorship of four local charities:

• Wisdom Hospice,
• Oliver Fisher Baby Unit,
• Have a Heart 
• Kent Air Ambulance. 

 A donation of ten percent is made to each charity from the  profit we make from re-selling the cartridges to be processed.

Kingsnorth Waste Management works closely with several industry partners and government organisations.

Our most recent partnership is with Remade South East, which is a not-for-profit company. The partnership aims to divert valuable waste away from landfill into new products and end-uses, by implementing re-use and recycling schemes.

Remade works with businesses like ourselves, public organisations and community groups in the South East region to find practical solutions to the more challenging waste issues.

Recently, we identified a new plastic product, an aluminium lined plastic water pipe used for piping fresh water across contaminated or brownfield sites. This product is so new that not all construction companies are aware of it, and therefore the machinery to separate the aluminium from the plastic was difficult to source.

As the two components already have thriving markets we were confident that in the future this would be a viable product to recycle.

After extensive investigation the KWM team identified a number of studies carried out in other countries to test or manufacture the product. Our investigations enabled us to produce a report on the viability of developing  machinery for this specialised waste product.
